Hey, so I wanted to post this in case anyone has run into the same issue I have. I recently got a 4K TV, and whenever I tried using my Hauppauge HD PVR 2 (Gaming Edition) with it I would get no audio output on my TV. HDPVRCapture is a software application which enables you to record HD H.264/AAC/AC3 video via Hauppauge’s HDPVR 2, HDPVR 2 Gaming Edition and HDPVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus (sold separately), on your Intel Mac. I created a video on how to setup the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 a while back ago and it still gets a lot of views from people wanting to use this device to livestream. Unfortunately, the old method is no.

Pros: I've used this with an HDMI splitter to record from various sources, and the picture quality and audio quality is great. The software allows me to export captured video to an MP4 file which makes it easy to view using various media players, ie Roku, smartphone, tablet, pc, etc
Cons: The capture software is pretty bare bones for editing purposes. you can clip entire sections from the beginning or end of a video, but you can't remove sections in the middle, like trying to remove a commercial from a video. Software is slow to export to Mp4 files, usually taking 5 minutes on a 5GB file but that can be expected when working with large video files.
Overall Review: I'd highly recommend it if you need to record an HDMI source. Only word of caution, if the video source has copy protection this device will not allow it to record. You will need to research specific after market HDMI splitters that remove the copy protection data, this applies to Playstation4 and a wide range of consumer playback devices.
Pros: On the rare occasion that the planets align and it works, you get a nice MPEG2 stream to further compress or do as you please with.
Cons: Pretty temperamental. It doesn't work too often and is fairly complex to troubleshoot because it typically conks out with the recording counter still going but the video preview frozen, so you end up with an absurdly large (100GB) file that only contains 4 minutes of recording. Sometimes it locks up with just the preview running, or with preview disabled.
I doubt it is an issue of resources or whatnot (I'm running an eight core rig with 24GB RAM) or overheating, just shoddy and careless programming of the user interface. It shouldn't be that complicated to get an otherwise decent piece of hardware to be usable.
Motorola pagers manuals. Overall Review: Even if it did work as advertised, keep in mind that even some fundamentally simple concepts are still unavailable - they finally added a feature that lets you set a time limit on your recording, but haven't figured out how to schedule a future recording.
Pros: Still going strong recording 2 to 4 hours a day with no problems. The resulting files after editing with other software look exactly like what you can get on the internet. If your DVR can record it you can save it to your computer. You can't tell it is passing through component cables. I still would recommend this for anyone wanting to record from their DVR. Great for preserving sporting events without the commercials and in HD to boot.
Hd Pvr 2 Capture Software Mac Free
Cons: Still only one in that the TS file is not readable by any software that I have tried (over a dozen). It was even hard to find software that would read it to allow conversion to another format, so I have to waste time and resources to convert the file to MPG which almost anything can edit. The software for editing that was included is a total waste.
Pros: Works as promised. Perhaps best for making DVDs of video games. TV recording: Works from 480i to 1080i resolution (I was unable to test it at 1080P). The TV turner is really only useful if Over the Air Transmission is available. Cable box with component video + RCA audio out records decent movies for a VCR player + 720P TV
Cons: Saves files in formats MP4, TS and M2TS. Other software must be purchased to create a ISO image if to be burned to a DVD. Must unplug the HMDI cable from Cable box to prevent video lines and audio hum.
Overall Review: So far, this video capture device works well, in spite of limitations place on the cable boxes. This system surpasses any previous video capture hard ward I have previously used
Pros: - Great Picture Image.
- Easy to edit video, no hassle.
- Great sounding audio
- supports 5.1 audio through HDMI
- When it works it can record hours of footage without issues.
- Options of audio codec & video container you want to use.
- Can stream directly to Twitch or Ustream
- Onboard video encoder, uses less CPU power then other capture cards.
Cons: - Drivers wouldn' t="" even="" install="" the="" first="" time="" i="" tried="" (had="" to="" reformat="" my="" pc="" twice="" before="" drivers="" installed="">
- Horrible Capture software.
- Constant crashing after 20 minutes or recording for unknown reason.
- 5.1 audio only works sometimes.
- When recording 5.1 audio via HDMI device likes to stop from time to time.
- Device can get very hot, be careful
Overall Review: I had Game Edition for over three years until it went. I decided to try new version(1512). I had nothing but problems, Which is strange since GE worked flawless.
Supplied Capture software did nothing but crash every 20 minutes(Even with the latest drivers and software).
Pros: Great idea, nice design It appears to have many nicer features than the previous unit, which I owned.
Cons: Software is less than decent and lack of customer supoort from Hauppage, it's difficult to think they can stay in business like this.
Return shipping should be paid due to a nonfunctional unit. It's not the customers fault, Any savings buying thru NewEgg was lost due to this. I wish I purchased locally and could return it easy, fast and free
Overall Review: Mine arrived with the optical cable not working, several calls to Hauppauge for support,. After the thrid call they agreeded to send a new optial cable, Welll it's been over a week and it's still not here.
Software si somewhat crude, the WMC interface is nice, or at least it was with the HD PVR 1212, as I couln't get it to work with this unit (due to remote issues with above cable)
I'm sending it back to NewEgg, just sucks I have to pay return shipping on a defective unit.
Pros: Does what is advertised and does it well. The framerate always keeps up and produces high quality video.
Comes with some basic video editing software, but it is very basic.
Cons: The video editing software included is light weight and certainly not good enough to produce high quality finishes with.
Overall Review: This is basically just a capture device that will allow you to lay mic-in commentary over and make minor trimming edits to the beginning and end of your videos. If that is all you are looking for then you'll be happy.
Pros: Sorta works
Cons: Constant computer crashes. Limited to 2 channel audio. No Linux support. Large file size
Overall Review: I got this as an upgrade to a dying 1212 on Mythbuntu. I remember my frustration with getting the 1212 set-up on Linux and was almost looking forward to using Windows for a ' plug="" and="" play'="" experience.="" wow="" was="" i="" wrong.="" i="" used="" xp="" media="" center="" for="" the="" installation.="" after="" multiple="" restarts,="" finally="" had="" the="" device="" installed="" and="" it="" appeared="" to="" be="" fine.="" i="" programed="" a="" couple="" of="" shows="" and="" left="" it="" alone.="" one="" show="" recorded="" and="" the="" computer="" crashed="" and="" had="" an="" incomplete="" file="" for="" the="" second="" show.="" rebooted="" and="" got="" everything="" working="" annnnnnnnnnd="" crash="" after="" a="" couple="" of="" recordings.="" i="" considered="" sending="" it="" back="" but="" not="" sure="" what="" to="" do.="" dread="" having="" to="" call="" customer="" support="" at="" hauppauge="" and="" have="" them="" explain="" that="" this="" is="" a="" windows="" problem="" and="" then="" get="" passed="" to="" microsoft="" to="" hear="" that="" this="" is="" a="" hardware="" issue.="" at="" some="" point="" i="" will="" bite="" the="" bullet="" and="" call,="" but="" for="" now,="" this="" wins="" the="" prize="" as="" my="" worse,="" tech="" purchase.="">
